There's Your Day

One last fall afternoon as she rolls

One last call for a ferry ride

One last try to break the cycle I inhaled

So predictable my ancestors cry

There's a full moon on the barn and the snow keeps me warm

But the barn door's open and your gone

And the pine trees bow while the fat dogs cry

Then the driveway crunches and you're home

You kept believing

When I gave no reason

And your hands held tight when mine let go

You left me footprints in the snow

Take that pillow off your face

Darlin I never loved this way

Good lord willin' and the creek don't rise

There's your day

It must have felt like a year to the hour

When you heard I wasn't coming home

Can't get no lawyer on the phone

And the church friends are all gone

They'd rather talk about than know

You kept trying when we kept dying

And your hands held tight when mine let go

You left me footprints in the snow

Wipe that water from your eyes

Darlin I much prefer sunrise

Somebody give Him His praise

There's your day

Snow bends the pine trees

And the years bend you and I

But we're all sleeping inside tonight

Got the baby - not a baby

And the fat dog still cries

So it turns out, you were right

And you kept believing when I gave no reason

And your hands held tight when I let go

You left me footprints in the snow

Take that pillow off your face

Darlin I never loved this way

Good Lord willin and the creek don't rise

Somebody give Him His praise

Let the Good People preach bad don't last always

And the good Lord willin and the creek don't rise

There's your day
